Maids and nannies in Ajman

Ajman is part of the health insurance scheme for the northern emirates, alongside the federal rules for every domestic worker. MOHRE (the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation) states the rule on its page about the scheme: In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, health insurance for domestic workers has been mandatory since 1 January 2025, paid by the employer; the basic package costs AED 320 a year.

Once MOHRE has issued her work permit, her residence goes through ICP, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. The government's Work Bundle portal sends Dubai employers to the DubaiNow app for domestic-worker services, and links the other emirates to ICP's smart services. MOHRE's page on the scheme gives the policy's term and one refund rule: MOHRE's basic health insurance package for the northern emirates is valid for two years, and the second-year premium can be refunded if the visa is cancelled.

The page doesn't say how a refund is claimed or how much comes back, so ask the insurer for its terms in writing before you buy, and keep the policy papers. Prices can change, so check MOHRE's page again whenever you renew.

The one for her work permit. Two different policies come up, at different stages:

1. The domestic worker insurance policy, for her work permit. Before a work permit is issued, the employer must buy a domestic worker insurance policy that covers the worker's unpaid dues up to AED 20,000.
2. Health insurance, for her residence permit. In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, employers must buy the health insurance policy to issue or renew a domestic worker's residence permit, and for a worker whose work permit is dated before 1 January 2025, it must be bought when the residence permit is renewed.
